AFGHANISTAN: Schools to reopen for exams after H1N1 shutdown
KABUL, 17 November 2009 (IRIN Asia) - The government has decided to reopen all schools from 23 November to 12 December to allow 7.5 million schoolchildren across Afghanistan to take exams.

KABUL, 5 November 2009 (IRIN Global) - The average per capita monthly expenditure of nine million Afghans is less than 66 US cents a day, and millions of other Afghans spend about $42 a month, according to a summary of Afghanistan’s new National Risk and Vulnerability Assessment (NRVA).

DHAKA, 3 November 2009 (IRIN Asia) - A new report by the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) says most children in Bangladesh are regularly exposed to physical abuse at school, at home or where they work.

AFGHANISTAN: WHO official supports H1N1 emergency measures
KABUL, 3 November 2009 (IRIN Asia) - A UN World Health Organization (WHO) official has backed the Afghan government’s health emergency declaration which involves a three-week closure of all schools and universities in Afghanistan as a means of preventing the spread of H1N1 influenza. He called it an “appropriate and timely measure” to curb its spread.

PAKISTAN: No specs no school
LAHORE, 1 November 2009 (IRIN Asia) - Like most blind and low-vision children in Pakistan - as well as many with correctable vision - Kaneez Fatima, 10, does not go to school. “She cannot see the blackboard clearly. We do not know why. So her teacher said she could not learn,” Kaneez’s mother, Bushra Bibi, told IRIN.
